When I found out that Sepultura is coming to Auckland, I knew I had to see their gig for two big reasons.
One is... they are Sepultura! (Why would anyone want to miss out on this?) And also it was my first time to go to a concert venue here where there was no prohibition of dslr cameras. So as soon as the gate opened we positioned ourselves in a good spot where I can take clear close up shots.
First off to perform was New Zealand's thrash metal band Just One Fix. With their rapid fire riffs and dynamical groove I found myself nodding and warming up my neck for what's next to come. They were on a mission to destroy.
Next on stage was one San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal pioneers Death Angel. It was good to see some fellow Filipinos (technically they're Filipino-Americans), who are metal icons, on stage. Their guitar duo Rob Cavestany and Ted Aguilar makes me pick up the guitar everytime I watch their playthrough videos. Those two are riff masters. But seeing the full band perform on stage was just phenomenal. It was chaotic but strangely there was a joyful atmosphere. I can't stop smiling (like Marco Minnemann on his Dream Theater audition). I'd look at my buddy Tomas and we would shake our heads in awe.
Death Angel is an opening act that's hard to top.
