I’ve never been on a sailboat or a yacht before. So when my buddy Aris offered us a free voucher to aboard a luxury classic yacht, I figured another family weekend trip was sorted!

The cruise experience was on a 1960-built vessel, the Haparanda. A beautiful classic yacht, well handcrafted that was passed from one generation to the next. Learn more about the vessel here. The sailing usually started at 1:30PM but we were required to be on board 30 minutes earlier.

During the sail, you get to sit back and relax on the deck while enjoying the scenery of the Auckland harbor. You can bring your own food and drinks too, for a small corkage fee. Though I felt a bit jealous of a few passengers who were having alcoholic beverages, I controlled myself not to indulge. I already felt a bit of dizziness the moment the boat started to move so boozing would be a terrible idea.

The crew were super friendly and even let me sit by the steering wheel to try maneuvering the boat myself. A really must-try genuine kiwi experience for everyone.
